State and National Leaders to Discuss Measures Taken to Address Growing Needs of Children in Mississippi

Third Annual Mississippi Children's Mental Health Summit Set for May 6

Mississippi Children’s Home Services (MCHS) will be hosting the Third Annual Children’s Mental Health Summit on Friday, May 6 at the Jackson Hilton in Jackson, MS.

With 1 in 5 children suffering from a mental disorder, children’s mental health affects all Mississippians. Today, children and youth are facing challenges and problems that take many forms. Children who experience trauma are 2.5 times more likely to have to repeat a year of school, to have chronic health issues such as asthma or obesity, and to be diagnosed with ADHD.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from evidence based practices and real world solutions to help Mississippi’s children, youth and families thrive.

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant, David Chandler, Executive Director, Division of Family and Children’s Services and Christine James-Brown, President/CEO of the Child Welfare League of America will provide participant updates on current issues, priorities and measures being taken to address the growing needs for children and families in Mississippi.
